Bölgeblick by Aino Aalto

Aino Aalto first designed the Bölgeblick range in 1932 for a competition at the Karhula glassworks, where it was awarded second prize. It went into production later that year and is still produced by Iittala today.

Her design was inspired by ripples in water and the stepped design was meant to hide imperfections in pressed glass, a process which allowed glassware to be produced in volume. With its simple and functional form, Bölgeblick remains a classic of modern Nordic design nearly a century later.
